Memorable stretches and gentle strides

The walk from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Immingham was a truly beautiful experience, particularly along the long, sandy beaches of Northumberland. This stage took me through Newcastle upon Tyne and Middlesbrough, before reaching the stunning Yorkshire coast. A memorable deviation involved a long loop inland via Hull to Boothferry bridge, eventually leading me back to the familiar coastline. Each day felt like a step closer to home, with a sense of the journey becoming gentler as the end approached.

Coastal gems and iconic towns

This 436-mile stage was rich with captivating sights. The Northumberland coastline offered vast, unspoilt beauty, a true highlight. Further south, the iconic Yorkshire coast unfolded with its charming seaside towns. Whitby, Scarborough, and Filey each provided their own unique character and stunning coastal views, making this leg of the journey particularly picturesque and enjoyable.

The home straight in sight

During this particular stage, a profound feeling of anticipation began to set in. It felt almost like the home straight, with each day bringing a sense of accomplishment and the knowledge that the journey's end was within reach. The walking, too, felt increasingly gentle. My hope is that people reading about this leg of my walk are inspired by the enduring spirit of adventure and the simple joy found in putting one foot in front of the other, even on the longest of journeys.
